My father came to Canada as a young man. In the early 1980s he became one of the first South Asian jewelers in Canada, and he built his business the way he lived, on trust. He never treated a client as a transaction. To him, they were family.

What he loved most was custom work: sitting across from someone, listening to their story, and turning it into something they could hold.

I grew up in his shop. As a little girl I would stand beside him and watch his hands work. On weekends I set up the cases, deciding which pieces belonged together and which stone deserved the light. Clients began asking for my opinion. I didn't know how to explain what I saw, only that I could feel when a piece was right.

He taught me that jewelry is never really about the jewelry. It's the proposal, the first child, the anniversary, the milestone you worked years to reach. It's the mother's ring that becomes her daughter's.
